World Cup-- if only I could watch it!
I love soccer... or football as most of the world calls it. I played a bit in high school-- but I SUCK! I mean really, I can't play for shit. So I try to stick to just watching it instead. That's why I love the World Cup. The top teams from around the world playing the best sport in the world for about a month-- meaning I get a whole month of news, updates, and broadcasts of matches--- well, I would have-- had Japan broadcast all the games. I know Japanese on the other side of the world and yes, the daytime match times become nighttime matches here in Japan (10pm, 1am, and 4am), and that's fine. I would sacrifice sleep so that I can catch all the games, but I can't. No, thanks to Japanese crappy-ass basic TV! I don't have cable or satellite TV. I never got it, cause I didn't think I needed it. I mean I rarely watch TV in Japan as it is. Why would I when there are so many other things I can do with my time than sit indoors and watch TV? Ok, so in winter it's freezing cold-- and yes I hibernate like everyone else-- expect for the 8 hours at work and weekly trips to Tsutaya to rent a week's worth of films to watch. But even then, I use my TV to view whatever I pop into the VCR or DVD player-- and not Japanese TV. So here's the problem, on the rare occasions like now when I want to watch TV, I have to work with what I got-- 4 basic channels. Well 4 channels in the daytime, but around 1am this cuts down to 2 and then only 1 channel. Now one channel wouldn't be bad if there was something interesting on-- like say the match between Germany and Poland (that happened on June 14th).But no, Fukui's one working channel at the time of the game (4am) has other broadcast plans. What can be better than the World Cup game (between host country Germany-- how's been playing amazingly well, at least they did in the one match I got to see--- and the country of my birth, Poland)%3
